Basic principles

It is made:

  • A transmitter belt which attaches to the chest. Its electrodes in contact with the skin transform the heart pulses in signals to the receiver.
  • A receiver worn on the wrist or on a bike.

In addition to heart rate, the monitor may indicate, according to the models, other information such as:

  • The average heart rate on the duration of the exercise;
  • The number of calories consumed since the beginning of the fiscal year;
  • The percentage of fats consumed;
  • A calculation of the maximum heart rate (HR max);
  • A calculation of the VO2max;
  • The assessment of the ability to recover after exercise.

Some sophisticated devices allow instant registration of data in memory on the duration of the exercise and their restitution in the form of graphics on computer. Most of the models have a coded transmitter belt, which avoids any interference with other computers. There are also the parts giving the possibility to store the profile of 2 users and thus be shared.

who are doing around a finger or even classic watches. The heart rate measurement is performed by infrared optical reading via a light signal. The variation in blood flow caused by the beating of the heart changes the intensity of the light passing through the tested area and allows to determine the heart rate. This type of cardio has the advantage of not being sensitive to the surrounding noise (electric lines, etc).
