Motorola’s first Smartwatch is available now more recently in Germany. The prior celebrated the Moto 360 especially for your great design. We have even undergone the Smartwatch a practice test to find out if she can do more than just look.
The hype in the prior to the Moto 360 was gigantic. The first Smartwatch, actually after a normal watch looked like and not like a small data center. And indeed: the design is simple and almost inconspicuous. This is due to several points. First of all the eponymous round case. Many other Smartwatches have often clunky, what istheir most angular format. Especially on the Moto 360 is its relatively low thickness. With 11.5 millimetres, it is only minimally above the mass of conventional watches. Also by the weight she is not of other watches to distinguish. With a weight of 49 grams including strap, it is even lighter than some of their analog sisters. Currently there is the Moto of 360 in two designs. One in black, that we used in our test phase and one in silver. In addition can be chosen between a black and a gray leather bracelet. A Metallarm and should be followed.
The display itself is 1.59 inches tall and has a resolution of 320 x 290 pixels, whatppi to a pixel density of 205 results. Although the case is even circular, a small part of the screen for verabeitungstechnischen reasons is cut off. This may be perhaps not necessarily from the aesthetic point of view, little but interferes with the operation or reading the connected watches via VAULTEDWATCHES. Inside the Moto 360 is a small TI OMAP 3 running 720 MHz core. There are also 4 gigabytes of memory and 512 megabytes of RAM. There are also a number of sensors such as pedometers, heart rate monitors,Gyrometers and of course a Bluetooth.
What exactly can the Moto for now?
As long as we have connected our Moto 360 not with a Smartphone, she can actually not much more than a conventional clock. By pressing the button located at the side or wrist movement activates the display and shows us the dial. Would we use functions in addition, we must like all current Androidsmartwatches, the clock first using a Bluetooh 4.0 on an Android wear app with the Smartphone connect. Theclock now serves mainly as a second screen. Incoming messages, calls, or emailsare shown us on the clock. Be answered can also just above the clock, but only through Google’s language input. It works but it surprisingly well and afford almost no mistakes. It is only a pity that this only works with a few applications like WhatsApp. All others we can while the message display, but only the ability to open the app by clicking the clock on our Smartphone is us.
We can directly send messages. For this we just say according to “Ok, Google” in the clock and then our desire. I want to write for example a mail I say simply to something such as: “OK, Google. Write an email to Max. Hello Max, how are you?” This works relatively fine, as long as there is only one contact by the same name inthe contact store. Unfortunately this only with Gmail or a normal SMS works. Sending messages with measuring playing like WhatsApp are not yet possible.
In addition to sending messages, we have access to the Google now features, provided we have enabled this on our Smartphone. Is this the case we can look at dates, let us navigate or check the weather forecast for the next few days. Also our music player is controlled by using the clock, however, no songs can be selected, but jump back and forth between the individual songs. On request, the motor can beused also as remote control for our camera.
The Moto 360 offers traditional fitness functions, such as for example the countingof the daily steps like all Smartwatches. Also a heartbeat sensor is installed. This however is not very reliable at least in our device and recognizes our pulse not always on the first attempt.
Configure the Moto 360 is only very rudimentary. On the watch itself, we have onlythe possibility of power settings to adjust the screen brightness or the Blueetoothverbindung. Push on the dial, we also have the opportunity to share this with different designs. We want this but change we need the corresponding Moto connect app, with the how to adjust the dials or us just create our own design. Although theexisting designs are all very appealing, our free opportunity by pointers and similar requirements is severely restricted.
We use new apps on the clock, we need to install just the desired app on our Smartphone and a little later we find them also in the startmenu of our clock. At the moment the range of applications for the moto or generally for Smartwatches is very small and consists largely of shenanigans, as really useful features.
The biggest problem the current Smartwatches and there is the Moto of 360 is noexception, the extremely low battery capacity. These amounts at the Moto on just320 mAh. Clearly, very much not consumed it in comparison to the Smartphone, which carries the actual computing power. Anyway, after 8-10 hours use of the battery is almost always empty. And that although hardly any applications have been started and I always had enabled the power saving mode, only turns on the displayof the watch which when I need it. Although even the flight mode could be switchon, which breaks the connection with my phone, but then the Smartwatch providesno added value in comparison to conventional watches. So, every night we have amore device that must be on the outlet. After all, the Moto with a very chic induction charger comes in that you just put the clock.
The Moto 360 has actually set a new standard in terms of Smartwatch design. It actually acts like a conventional watch. However, like all other Smartwatches, it has abig problem and I don’t even mean the battery life. Rather it lacks easy creative ideas to use. At the moment, it is not much more than a notification display. Although a very pretty, but much more not. Too often, the cell phone must be obtained again out of his pocket. For fitness fans she like potential, a little more due to the pedometer and the heart rate monitor. But for everyone else, is and remains the Smartwatch just a very expensive piece of jewellery at the moment.
The Moto 360 is available and compatible only with devices in Germany for €250.
