Google Gives a First Insight into Android Wear 2.0

The announced Smartwatch operating system Android Wear 2.0, announced for Google in 2017, is approaching big steps. The company does not yet reveal the actual publication date, but there is currently a first insight into what users are expecting in the future. Promised was a more independent work of the Smartwatches. This promise is followed by the search engine giant and, in a first preview, shows further improvements.

The lack of independence was sometimes a frequently expressed criticism of the owners of a Smartwatch with Android Wear operating system. Without a mobile phone the intelligent clock is hardly usable. Apps can only be brought to the wrist with the current version if they are also installed on the smartphone. Google has adopted this problem and will bring the Play Store to the Smartwatch in the future. From there you can then download stand-alone applications.

In a blog entry, Google presents the first three apps that have been enhanced with Android Wear 2.0. The first is Glide, which is available as a video messaging service. Its special feature is that the video telephone can be integrated into a Watchface. The App Foursquare, the restaurants, bars, shopping and the like more to track, is to offer in the future with a better performance. The application Lifesum, with which consumed food and completed activities are registered, makes the user this process 2017 also easier.

With regard to the Watchfaces, Android Wear 2.0 offers more individual configuration options. What can be seen on the digital digits can be freely defined in the future. For which apps a quick access is desired or which data can be viewed there – all this is the decision of the user. Some applications can even be started with special gestures. Android Wear 2.0 also facilitates the exchange of information between individual programs. This makes it possible, for example, to allow the run recorded with Runtastic to migrate to MyFitnessPal.

Finally, answering messages is much easier. In addition to already pre-prepared standard texts, the Smartwatch with Android Wear 2.0 also responds to handwritten input. This is then converted into text. In addition, the keyboard has been reworked and made more comfortable.

Based on these first insights, Android Wear 2.0 makes Smartwatches much more independent of the smartphone. The innovations for the first or second quarter of 2017 are anticipated. In the course of this, a whole bundle of new wearables should be released, whose manufacturers have been waiting for the refreshed operating system.
