Does the Apple Watch Series 2 Fall Short of Its Expectations?

For a long time the Apple Watch Series 2 was the successor of the first Smartwatch of the Californian electronics giant. Both the fans of the Cupertino brand and the group themselves had high expectations in the intelligent watch. Meanwhile the Apple Watch Series 2 has been available for about two weeks. At the same time, the first model has also received a rejuvenation and can be purchased at a lower price. Within this rather short time, no really meaningful picture can be drawn, as far as the response of Smartwatch is concerned – and a development is nevertheless indicated. This reveals that the Apple Watch Series 2 remains behind its expectations.

Once again the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has dealt with the sales figures of this wearable. The Asian has the reputation of the “Apple Oracle” because its forecasts are considered reliable. Still in the summer, he assumed that the company could bring up to 10.5 million smart watches to the buyers’ wrists. This value came as he expected a boost through the Apple Watch Series 2. He has now corrected his own prediction – clearly downward. Rather, he assumes that only between 8.5 and 9 million models will be sold by the end of the year.

Compared to the first forecast, the sales figures are thus between 15 and 25 percent lower. For Apple itself, this would be a bitter disappointment, if Ming-Chi Kuo should be right, lower sales figures than in the previous year. This fact is even more noticeable when one remembers that the first Apple Smartwatch did not appear until spring 2015. If the prediction is true, the company has sold more of its intelligent watches in just eight months of the previous year than in a complete year 2016.

The reasons for the reasons are a question that can not be answered per se. One reason, however, could be that Apple has changed the design of the Apple Watch Series 2 too little. This is exactly the strategy pursued by the Group at least with the MacBooks and the iPhones with success. In the iPad, however, did not succeed – and that is exactly the Apple Watch currently threatening. This is at the same time also a fashion accessory, so a refresher of the design would not have hurt. A wide range of bracelets alone is not a big buying incentive. Changes to the appearance of the case might have generated more resonance.

Also in terms of technical issues, which Apple Watch Series 2 apparently unable to convince the full. Most of the new features have come through the update of the operating system watchOS 3. However, the owners of the first Apple Watch can also take advantage of this.

The extent to which the forecasts are true will be revealed in the next few weeks. Presumably, also the holiday shopping season the Apple Watch 2 still provide a boost. Then the prospects for the group from Cupertino would not be so gloomy.
